Mental Health Report 2025

The Big Mental Health Report, published by Mind and supported by the Centre for Mental Health, shows mental health challenges are rising across the UK. Around 1 in 5 adults in England is living with a common mental health problem, with Wales showing a similar trend. Loneliness is increasing, and suicide and self-harm rates remain high.

Mental ill-health is most common among:

  • Young people
  • Women
  • People with long-term health conditions
  • Those facing debt or unemployment

The impact is unequal, hitting deprived areas and those with severe illness the hardest. Mental wellbeing has been gradually declining since 2016–17, and the cost of mental ill health in England is estimated at £300 billion a year.

Services are under pressure, with many people reporting their mental health worsens while waiting for support. These findings underline the urgent need for accessible, culturally informed mental health care.

At The Mended Foundation, we provide safe, non-judgmental spaces for Black African, Caribbean, and biracial communities in the UK to be seen, heard, and supported.
